Too many couples spend too little time talking about their marriage.

We’ll stand before our friends, family, children, and church proclaiming the importance of our marriage while seldom talking about it with the one person who matters most. We talk about parenting, gardening, shopping, vacationing, sports, haircuts, finances, chores, and other people. Then we treat our most important earthly relationship with an “if it ain’t broke…” attitude, as if we can simply glide on autopilot into a Great Marriage; and we wonder why so many marriages that look so good on the outside are so rotten on the inside.

In our culture, marriages that overlook routine maintenance tend to get replaced rather than repaired. No one plans to overlook maintenance, they just don’t think they have the time or energy to do it now, tomorrow, next week, or this Summer.
