What gives rope, cable, or a guitar string value?

Think about it.

None are of real value until they are pulled upon. A rope offers no value while being pushed. A cable offers no benefit while coiled. A guitar string offers no tune until tight. Tension gives value to each. If you’ve ever grabbed a lose rope or cable, you’ve discovered that tension, having a force pulling upon it, offers stability as well.

True friends and strong partners bring stabilizing tension to our friendships and partnerships when they offer unique insights and opinions rather than simply applauding or encouraging each of our ideas like classic “yes men.”
