Serve, Serve Together, & Serve Wisely
Serving is a great quality in Great Marriage. Serving offers multiple benefits and allows for healthy, individual growth. For Christians, it’s also expected and should be a normal, wonderful part of discipleship. We often teach others to live a servant-hearted life, because that is what Jesus taught and modeled.
In marriage, what does it mean to share a servant-hearted life?
Like many couples, John and I had to learn to serve together. Early on, we had a lot of different ideas, interests, and capabilities. We tried a host of things to both learn and sharpen our skills and sustainability. Time was limited, and we wanted to stay together during serving times; therefore, we leaned into opportunities that had space for both of us. We also leaned toward each other’s ideas and interests while challenging each other’s comfort zone. John helped chaperone children at the Coastal Empire Fair and took American Sign Language classes with me; I baked items for him to share at meetings and hosted youth group in our house on Sunday nights.
