The Gift
I took this picture in March of 2025. John and I were celebrating 36 years of marriage with some out-and-back hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Having stopped to eat, we found the lure of the warm sun too wonderful to pass up; therefore, a nap made the agenda. A blanket sufficed as a ground covering; yet the surface was still hard and cold. We didn’t care.
We stretched out on a hill and soaked up the warm rays. We laughed. Shared thoughts. Joked about the mileage we’ve gotten out of a $10.00 Buc-ee’s pillow. Closed our eyes to the wonder that is ahead and enjoyed the wonder of the moment. We simply abided with one another. In reflection, it was the best celebration of our marriage. We still enjoy just being together and can find rest and refreshment with one another even on a cold, hard surface.
