Recently, I gave a genuine, heartfelt compliment to someone I love, and they struck it down in mid-air. The compliment fell like a rock, never reaching their heart. Further, the silence that followed was awkward and palpable. If I’m honest, I was disappointed. I expressed meaningful words of love and affirmation, and they didn’t seem to matter.
